Introduction

From the moment you turn in through the gates, you know that Gonerby Court is no ordinary place to live. Situated off the old Great North Road, you are only 1 mile from the centre of Grantham, but as you follow the 100-metre long drive, lined with mature lime trees, you are instantly transported to an age of elegant living.

The Grade II listed house is thought to date from the early 19th century. In 1906, a dashing military man bequeathed Gonerby House to a young spinster, in consideration of his affection for her.

Previous generations of owners have made changes to improve and enhance the Grade II listed building, resulting in the magnificent façade we see today. Over the years, it has been a gentleman’s country house, a student hall of residence and a boarding house for the famous King’s School in Grantham.

The house is being sympathetically renovated, using the highest quality materials, fixtures and fittings, with guidance of the Conservation Officer, to ensure a perfect balance of where ‘old meets new’. The original features are being restored and preserved, for the delight of future generations, transforming this unique property into one of the most desirable and sought-after developments in the area.

The ancient market town of Grantham is an interesting and contrasting mixture of old and new. Standing on the banks of the River Witham, surrounded by rich agricultural land and mellow stone villages, the town has a history dating back to Saxon times.

The town became important during the 12th Century when The Great North Road, from London, drove right through the town, making it into a coaching centre favoured by Kings. As you wander through the streets you see examples of its past, from Medieval to Georgian, Victorian and through to the present day, dominated by the architectural beauty of St Wulfram’s Church.
